I just don't get the lack of an educational perspective from this --
it is all about the commercial benefits, or lack of them. Free music
concerts are some of the greatest summer events any city has to offer.
I m.c. a little free summer concert series in Spring Lake, MI, every
Thursday night all summer long. We take our kids, even our dog, to
these things. Put out a blanket for a picnic, watch the kids play on
the play ground, look through the band shell to the Grand River
flowing by on it's way out to Lake Michigan. I've probably heard 20
versions of "Margaritaville" this summer and there's no way I'm going
to buy it, ever. Does that mean I'm a Bad American?
