[JPL] Alvin Batiste Question

Jim, I had known of the one in "A" but one bio page I read on him on All About Jazz had it listed as a "Concerto In Bb." That's why I said I didn't know of any Mozart wrote in "Bb." Would you know if that one in A was what he played? Larry? They certainly were referring to the composition key and not the instrument. When you say "Concerto In Bb" that's key and not the Bb instrument. I guess it's possible that some could intrepret it that way or maybe the writer simply had it wrong.

Jae, FYI

Actually, Mozart did write a clarinet concerto and it's fairly well
known - although it's in A, not Bb. It was composed in the last few
months of his life for Viennese clarinetist Anton Stadler, who
premiered it. Today's instrument is quite different from the one
Stadler used in 1791 and the transcription used for the modern clarinet
dates from about ten years later. This is "The Mozart Clarinet
Concerto" and it has had quite a few few recordings.
