I just spoke with Jessica Felix, who along with Jesse Varela from KCSM and
others who are working very hard to organize a benefit for George here in
the San Francisco area. After just speaking personally with Jessica, the
feeling is that it is somewhat premature to make any on-air announcements
relative to this message that was previously sent.
There will be a benefit, Jessica is arranging to rent Yoshi's as a venue for
a date as soon as possible. She is talking with many prominent musicians,
many have accepted and will appear at the benefit, however the line-up is
not nearly completed. There will a formal announcement and there will also
be some formal method for accepting donations from the public, such as a
bank account or PO Box set up specifically for this purpose, it will not be
the private address included in this message. George is a friend to many
and will need help as he recovers, everyone does after such invasive
surgery, however there is no truth to the fact that George Cables will be
recovering as a "homeless person".
While understandable that an initial inclination is to immediately do
something, please stay tuned for the true facts and details prior to making
any announcement relative to this on the air. That is the wish of those
organizing the benefit, and also most importantly the wish of those closest
to George.
Looking forward.

I just received an email from the head of George Cables' label
concerning his current financial situation. If you can help with ANY
donation for this wonderful man, please do so now.

*I hate making these kinds of requests of friends, but if George's
friends and family can't raise about $15,000 dollars over the next 3
months, he could end up surviving his double transplant operation as a
"homeless person". We've raised about $2000 so far, but we have just
begun and we are hopeful. Yoshi's Jazz Club in Oakland is holding an All
Star Jazz benefit concert for George next month. This benefit concert
will attract the very best Jazz musicians on the West Coast, but
unfortunately this type of benefit concert historically nets less than
$5000. We are also currently trying to organize a benefit concert in
NYC. I'll keep you updated.*
*Anything you are able to give will be greatly appreciated.

*Donations should be made out to George Cables and mailed to:*
