Seeing this is interesting Rick because it reminded me when my group opened for Kevin on one of those shows. It wasn't this one because the one we played on he was using a different bassist but the rest of the band was the same. Kevin was incredibly disrespectful to us in terms of allowing us time for our soundcheck. They just played and played at theirs ...almost to show time and we had less then ten minutes to soundcheck. Billy Pierce wanted to stop but Kevin kept playing. He could have cared less about us. I will add that Billy and Smitty are friends but I didn't know Kevin. Billy is on my "Listen" CD.
Personally I don't have much respect for musicians that treat others like that...regardless of the talent they have. Didn't matter though because when they finally came out and started to play...it was so out that half the crowd was gone by the middle of their set. I would have to say that the only other time I've seen an artist lose an audience like that was a festival we played on with ...yes Kenny G and Al Jarreau. Al came on after Kenny and the place was three quarters empty 30 minutes into his set. The funny thing is that Al was a royal jerk backstage before the show. I guess what goes round......
