Fellow JPLers,

This past weekend's Night Lights program, "Conover's Coming Over: Willis Conover and Jazz at the Voice of America," is archived for online listening:

http://nightlights.blogs.wfiu.org/2007/11/12/conovers-comin-over-willis-conover-and-jazz-at-the-voice-of-america/

It includes remarks from Conover biographer Terence Ripmaster and jazz producer George Avakian, some interview clips and broadcast excerpts from Conover himself, and music connected with Conover: sides from the Orchestra (the D.C. big band WC presented), a Louis Armstrong Newport performance, WC introducing Eubie Blake's 1969 "Stars and Stripes Forever" at a New Orleans festival, Conover fan Adam Makowicz's "Tatum On My Mind," a 1969 White House Ellington birthday-party "Jump for Joy" (a tribute organized by WC), and the two rare Columbia sides that Conover recorded with guitarist Charlie Byrd: "Far Off, Close By" and "The Empty Streets," songs that Conover co-wrote with his good friend Alec Wilder.
