Did any one mention Don Cherry?

Years ago I was hanging out in NY with the violinist LeRoy Jenkins. He
invited me to a recording session. Actually it was my first recording
session. It was one of the dates for the recording called Escalator Over
The Hill. Don Cherry was sitting on a long bench by himself. He had his
pocket trumpet and several small flutes sitting on the bench next to
him. He was dressed in what I think you call buck skin, dressed just
like an Indian complete with head band and feather. I actually went and
talked to him and we shared a moment.

Escalator was written and arranged but Don just started singing a couple
of times. Carla Bley was smoking her pipe and conducting. She loved
Don's singing! She told Don to keep doing it!
